Ocean Diver
Ocean Diver is BSAC’s entry-level diving qualification. Ocean Divers are qualified to dive to a depth of 20m with a similarly qualified dive buddy. The qualification is recognised worldwide and there is a strong emphasis on safety and training confident and competent divers. As everyone learns at a different speed the course is designed so that you can progress at your own pace.
The course is in two parts – in part 1 you learn the theory and essential skills of diving, in part 2 you show your competency at using those skills in open water.
Part 1: pool and theory sessions
The theory and pool sessions are run over seven weeks on Wednesday and Thursdays evenings. Theory lessons are run on Zoom, starting at 7pm on Wednesdays. Lessons cover key topics such as diving equipment, physiology, planning and dealing with problems. Pool training is on a Thursday evening, 8.00 – 9.30pm at Ironmonger Row Baths.
The Ocean Diver Pool & Theory costs £110 (£65 training cost plus £45 training materials). You will also need to be a member of BSAC (£65.50) and Clidive (£15 per month or £165 annually).
Check the Training Programme page for dates of our next Ocean Diver course.
Part 2: open-water qualifying dives
To qualify as an Ocean Diver, you also need to successfully complete four open-water dives. Clidive provides plenty of opportunities for you to do this, either in the UK or abroad. We can also refer you to a BSAC school if you want to complete the training on your own holiday.
Most of our training trips are run over a weekend Stoney Cove, a dedicated dive centre in an old flooded quarry in Leicestershire. Costs are around £280 for two days training and accommodation and £340 for an extended weekend of three days where you have additional dives to consolidate your skills.
We also usually do an early season training trip abroad where you can benefit from warmer conditions. In recent years we have been to Croatia, Cyprus and the Canary Islands.
